Black Dog Cycleworks Traction Footpegs Review

The trail was barely wide enough for the Tenere 700 to squeeze through when a few snaking tight turns came out of nowhere.  Counterbalancing the bike, a hefty thrust down on the inside Black Dog Cycle Works Traction Footpeg quickly angled the bike along the narrow path.  The large platform of the peg acting like power steering, the bike was easily manipulated through the ebb and flow of the single track.
By far, the biggest benefit from the BDCW Traction Footpegs are the large 2.5” by 4.5” surface area which is about 55% larger than the stock pegs.  When standing, these platform allows the rider to have better control of the bike as well as a more comfortable stance.  There is plenty of room for large ADV boots to shift around and the larger diameter of the Traction Foot Pegs help disperse weight and pressure.  In contrast, the smaller OEM pegs put much more pressure on the foot, quickly making it uncomfortable while adding to rider fatigue.

Another thing that is quickly noticed is the fact that the Traction pegs sit a half inch lower than the OEM’s.  When sitting, the cockpit feels less cramped and your legs are in a more comfortable position.  When standing, your dab has a shorter distance from the peg to the ground which also helps when the terrain gets a little gnarly.  The larger size and lower positioning of the BDCW Traction Footpegs will help keep you in the saddle longer!

Double your pleasure
The teeth of the Traction pegs will definitely keep your feet planted and if you will be running in really wet and muddy conditions, BDCW includes threaded spikes (six per peg) with an installation tool and a small bottle of thread lock.  The large gaps in the pegs also help keep debris from building up and distracting your attention from the terrain in front of you.  At 6 ounces each, the aircraft-grade aluminum alloy provides a lightweight and sturdy platform.

With the wider BDCW Traction Footpegs comes a bit of a concern.  When traversing tight terrain such as rock gardens, ruts, or single track through the trees, there is the greater possibility of catching the pegs.

Installation of the Traction Footpegs is made much easier with the addition of the special BDCW “installation pin”.  The pain of keeping the spring in place and the hole of the peg aligned while installing is enough to drive the most experienced wrencher crazy!  BDCW helps keep your sanity and saves you time with their simple solution.  Bottom line, the easy installation, added comfort sitting or standing, superior traction, and the fact the Black Dog Cycle Works Traction Footpegs are manufactured in the U.S.A. makes them an amazing addition to your motorbike.
